KID-3145 My brother was Bob Liebel from Erie PA. I can’t tell you how great it was to find you site – oh the memories it brought back. I have been in the process of pulling together information on my brother who passed away a few years back for my children to give them some family history. In the early 60’s when my brother was about 14, built his first CB radio, a single crystal Heathkit. His call letters were KID-3145 and within a short time he moved up to a 26 channel Lafayette when my dad got really interested and put a mobile unit in his car, a ’62 Comet. He had to cut a hole in the back fender to mount the antenna. I also remember my brother designing his own QSL card and the smaller “eyeball” version that was given to someone that we met up with on the road when we were out and about. He had quite a collection of card from around the country but sad to say I have no idea what happened to them. He drifted away from CB when he came back from Vietnam were he flew helicopters for the Army in the early 70’s So it was so great to see the QSL card and the old call letters on your site. Those were exciting and fun times and it was great to be a part of what was then, leading edge technology. Keep up the great work on you site. Thanks, Jeff Liebel Buffalo, NY

KBHR 4200 Ralph C, Brooklyn NY. (present amateur call KC2JXC) My 11 meters call sign from the FCC was KBHR 4200 [1976~1988]. Originally as SGT. PEPPER then from 1980 on was known as METRO_BASE 201. I enjoyed a lot of skip during sunspot cycle 11. Worked SSB on a Cobra 148, Turner Super Side Kick mic and a Horizontal 3 element beam with Radio Shack TV rotor. I had many radios 23 or 40 channels during those years. I also was a short-wave and scanner listener. Those were the days. Today I'm a ham with call KC2JXC and I devote a lot of time to monitoring all types and modes of transmissions. I still miss those days. Great site and thanks for the memories. MetroBase201

You have a very cool website! My father was into UTICA radios in the late 60s and I tagged along with him. My Dads' name was Wally Baron and he worked for Columbia Wire in Chicago near where UTICA had there shop. My Dads handle was "The Blue Baron" and his numbers were KRJ 3305. He had a friend whose name was Sam, who was a electronic technician and worked for UTICA at the Irving Park Rd. shop. He use to hang around a CB shop in Chicago on Irving Park Rd. where the owners went by "The Rug Weaver" and the other man, "Bugs Bunny". This was probably 1966-67. My Dad had a few TCIIIs and I think one TCII. I remember the first TCIII he brought home as having a painted case instead of the chrome plated one. The TCIII was the cream of the crop of CBs. Sam use to "soup them up" and was able to get over thirty watts out of them! I remember seeing the test with a wattmeter myself. My father used to talk to the Virgin Islands and Hawaii on skip in the evenings! It was amazing! There were many evenings where I would help my Dad putz in our basement with those CBs. My mother got real annoyed with the noise. My Dads' friend Sam died of cancer early in his life. He was in his late 30s or early 40s. This was probably 1971 or 1972. My father passed away in 2006. I'm currently a locomotive electrician for the Union Pacific R.R. in Denver, Colorado.
